Your grades and GPA play an important role in your trajectory as a student, influencing your academic standing, eligibility for scholarships, and future opportunities such as graduate school or professional programs. It’s essential to understand the policies that dictate how grades at 91³Ô¹Ï are recorded, how your GPA is calculated, and how this impacts your academic standing.
Grading and GPA

- Understand how your grades will appear on your transcript and how your GPA, TGPA (Term GPA) and CGPA (Cumulative GPA) are calculated.
- Stay informed about academic standing requirements and the implications of of low grades.
- Know 91³Ô¹Ï's Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U) policy - consult SOUSA's S/U Option page for full details.
- Recognize the meaning of other grade symbols, such as:
- J - unexcused absence (failure)
- K -Ìýincomplete; instructor has extended the deadline for submission of work in a course
- L -Ìýapproved to write a deferred examination in a course
- W -Ìýwithdrew with permission, after the Course Change deadline; not calculated in TGPA or CGPA
By being aware of these university policies, you can make informed decisions about your coursework, manage your academic progress effectively, and avoid surprises when reviewing your transcript.
Academic standing
Your academic standing reflects your progress in your program and is determined at the end of each term based on your grades and University and Faculty Academic Standing policies (published in the eCalendar). It is important to understand how academic standing is assessed and what it means for your studies.Ìý
When you first start your program, you are considered to be in Satisfactory Standing. At the end of each term (or once all final grades are submitted), your academic standing is reviewed based on your results. If your CGPA/TGPA remain above the required minimums, you will continue in Satisfactory Standing.Ìý
What happens if your grades fall below minimum requirements?Ìý
If your CGPA/TGPA falls below the required threshold, you may be placed in a different academic standing category, such as Probationary, Interim Probationary, Unsatisfactory or Interim Unsatisfactory. It is critical that you inform yourself of the implications of being placed in a different standing as you may be required to reduce your courseload or apply for readmission to continue your studies.
Stay informed and seek support
If you are concerned about your academic standing, it’s important to speak with an academic advisor early. Support and resources are available to help you stay on track.
