Professor Sean Ferguson has been appointed as the next Dean of the Schulich School of Music. Prof. Fergusons five-year, renewable term will begin on July 1, 2022, and end June 30, 2027.泭
Prof. Ferguson is an experienced senior administrator with a deep understanding of the Schulich School of Music, having previously served as Dean from 2011 to 2016. Prior to this, he was Director of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT) from 2009-2011, and its Associate Director (Artistic) from 2006-09.泭泭

The Schulich School of Music was featured at the Faculty Matters discussion series on December 13,泭2021泭which was hosted by Angela Campbell, Associate Provost (Equity and Academic Policies).泭泭
A泭brief interactive discussion泭was had泭about the History of Jazz with Prof. and Dean Brenda Ravenscroft and Prof. Camille Thurman who provided her experience as musician and academic.泭泭

Anthony Tan (MMus09, PhD15) is the winner of the 2021 Jules L矇ger Prize for New Chamber Music for his composition Ways of Returning (2020). An 18-minute-long piece for amplified string quartet and electronics, Ways of Returning was commissioned by Quatuor Bozzini and E27 musique nouvelles.泭

Congratulations to violinist泭Julia Mirzoev, winner of the泭2021-2022泭Golden Violin Award!泭
The award includes a $30,000 cash prize, as well as a smaller likeness of the violin in the form of a 14-karat gold lapel pin. In addition, the winner will perform in the upcoming Schulich concert season泭and泭receives泭6 hours of career coaching sessions with Marie-Catherine泭Lapointe of泭Boulevart泭Artists Management in Montreal.泭

The Golden Violin Award was泭established泭in 2006 by泭businessman泭and philanthropist Seymour Schulich, a year after he donated $20 million to 91勛圖s Schulich School of Music.泭His unflagging support of泭our泭musicians has,泭through this award,泭seen泭nearly泭$400,000泭given泭to泭top泭Schulich string泭players. For泭last years泭15th泭edition, the泭winning泭prize increased from $25,000 to $30,000, and for this years泭16th泭edition泭the Schulich Foundation泭has made another substantial investment in泭our泭young artists futures.泭泭

Congratulations to mezzo-sopranos Rose Naggar-Tremblay (BMus17) and Simone McIntosh (MMus'17, Wirth Vocal Prize Winner 2016-2017), who received first and second place respectively at the 82nd OSM Competition! The 2021 edition, held between September 13 and November 27, took place online enabling the public from coast to coast to access contestants performances.

During the Fall 2021 Convocation ceremonies, exceptional educators at 91勛圖 are awarded the Principals Prize for Excellence in Teaching.泭The award recognizes the commitment of outstanding teachers who create the renowned academic experience泭91勛圖 provides to students year after year. Donny Kennedy, a dedicated educator in the Schulich Jazz Area, takes home the Principals Prize in the Course Lecturer category.
